Bruce Fast was born in Canada in 1962. He studied Philosophy, Sociology and Religion at several Universities, eventually obtaining a Bachelor of Religious Studies degree and three incomplete Masters degrees. He has travelled in over 50 countries (most of it hitchhiking) in his quest to achieve a comprehensive view of this world. He has also worked for several years as a social worker. He became a full-time artist in 1993 when he decided that art was the most international language and the best way to communicate his ideas and observations. His main focus has been around the idea of "The Whole". Looking at as many sides of an idea or concept as he can and trying to present the truest picture.

Bruce is a versatile artist who uses mostly Expressionistic, Abstract and Surrealistic styles of painting but will use whatever style he feels will best communicate his ideas. He has vigilantly tried to keep away from traditional techniques and schools of painting so that the ideas and concepts will express themselves in an unobtrusive way. He claims a wide field of influences, including: Indigenous cultures such as Tibetan, Aboriginal and Native North American; Deaf Culture, childrens art, and the Canadian Group of Seven Artist to name but a few. He follows the adage of Joseph Beuys and others that we are all artists. He believes that Art is not dead, on the contrary, that we are in the process of killing institutionalised art in order to free the need of the human spirit to truly express itself.

Bruce has exhibited and sold paintings in North America, Australia and Europe and tries to be a truly international and intercultural artist. He lives in Victoria and is building a studio on Pender Island B.C. Canada .
